Tick Borne Disease: Just One Bite Can Change the Future
Recognizing tick-borne diseases (TBDs), can be confounding and complex. Are symptoms associated with a tick bite, or are they related to other causalities with similar presentations? Timely and correct diagnosis can be essential, since some TBDs can be quickly fatal or have lasting sequelae if left untreated. This presentation will cover symptoms, as well as appropriate communication with students, parents and others. It will include the risks, incidence, bite avoidance guidance, and other relevant evidence-based information.
The speaker is Sandi Delack, M Ed, BSN, RN, NCSN-E, FNASN.
Sandi has 31 years’ experience as a school nurse and health services coordinator for a suburban school district in RI. She has served as president of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN). She is the current Executive Director of NBCSN. Sandi is a national presenter on Vector Borne Illness and provides school nurses with guidance to educate parents, students, and the school community.
