Mosquito-Borne Disease: Bites that Pack a Punch
This presentation provides guidance for counseling students, parents and collogues of mosquito-borne diseases, based on where they live, and travel, to help prevent mosquito-borne diseases. It focuses on vector behavior, risk, prevention, symptoms and management of the diseases. Mosquito-borne diseases are generally NOT curable, so by understanding and communicating where dangers lie and by dispelling urban legends, school nurses can play a key role in students’ well-being.
Sandi has 31 years’ experience as a school nurse and health services coordinator for a suburban school district in RI. She has served as president of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN). She is the current Executive Director of NBCSN. Sandi is a national presenter on Vector Borne Illness and provides school nurses with guidance to educate parents, students, and the school community.
Nursing contact hours (0.5 contact hours for each workshop) are provided by Northeastern University School of Nursing, accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
